It never happened, instead The Who gave Led Zeppelin their title, saying that they would "Sink like a lead zeppelin." Hence the name. As great as The Who are, what with their rock operas (Tommy and Quadrophenia > Zeppelins entire career), Deep Purple are the real answer. Deep Purple are the true greatest rock band. They're more diverse compositional wise in four songs than Zeppelin were with their career. For example...
