Perfect

It’s not that I’ve never heard this bit of advice before, but hearing it lately stuck in my little brain. I was on vacation, a beautiful woman at my side. She whispered something to me. Or maybe it was talking, not whispering and my brain didn’t register the difference. I had just told her that I imagined that my life would be something completely different than it was right now; that when I was younger, I used to have a big plan and for a while I was sticking to it. That now, I was more drifting around, deviating from the course that I had chosen.

“If you’re waiting for the time until everything is aligned and just perfect, you’ll be waiting forever.”

She was talking about something specific, but it’s really applicable to everything in my life. Writing, for one. The day will never come if you sit at the blank screen and wait for the combination of perfect writing environment, idea, thought and emotion to all come melding together in order to allow you to put word to paper.

Jobs, creativity, marriage, art, babies, vacations – all the important things in life, really – it all has to happen at some point. You can’t plan and think and wait until all is well. At some point, you just have to do. At some point, you just have to take the plunge.

Dude, did you mean to post this in the Private blog or what? You’re losing it :)

  • I’m losing it for sure. But there’s no such thing as a private blog. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

  • Damn you to hell Mestas

  • So if there’s no private blog, then what is that little message up in the left hand side that says “Private Update: Wednesday 1/19/05 9:12pm PT” for?

  • It’s purely a lie. Or something like that.
