I’m Dead Serious

Huey Lewis and the News were completely underappreciated as fine musical artists. Any Davis folks wanna give a shoutout about the Grad (which I will never consider a “club”, despite its attempts to do so) and the Huey Lewis connection?*

This semi-drunken, increasingly incoherent post brought to you by Jim Beam and a tiny bit of water. A lot of Beam, A lot of fun. Oooh. Elton John is on iTunes. Gotta go and sing…

Can’t tell you how many times I sang the national anthem atop a table in the Grad with old Huey and his bunch.

  • Back in the 80′s, or some such, as a kid anyway, I had a Huey Lewis thing. I can admit this truth. Now that I am old and overworked, I just like to pretend that I like strange sophisticated music that sounds weird.

    Such is my cool.

  • ahh, the grad. how i loved and hated that place. well, mostly hated. i really couldn’t tell you about the connection between huey and the grad, but if i was huey (and especially if i was the news), i’d officially disavow any connection whatsoever. and goddammit, you’re right, it should have been you!

  • I was at the grad last night!!!

Well, I was at the Cost Plus World Market next to the grad in the University Mall…

  • there’s a cost plus next to the grad? that seems way to classy for university mall. i’m sure it fits in wellt next to gottschalks and the am/pm.

  • Paresh, the Cost Plus just opened last year.

I’d trade the Cost Plus for the old Nation’s Hamburger restaurant back.

I’d also rather have a tobasco enema that go to the Grad.

  • Mmmm… Nation’s Hamburger. Interestingly enough, it was maybe the best breakfast place there was in Davis. (yes, I said breakfast)

And just in case this topic is officially dead. I’d just like to close it down with following songs. New York, New York, and Happy Trails…
