The Obituary – Six Feet Under
*Full disclosure: I have cable, digital and subscribe to HBO. Now. And this has some spoilers to the season finale if you have not yet seen it.
For reasons that need not be discussed here, I had to download the last episode of Six Feet Under on bittorrent. It was easy, fast and the episode looked great thanks to the widescreen presentation. I thought it was a fitting end to the series, though a slight bit Claire-centric. It was nice to have Peter Krause’s early exit provide the driving force for the rest of the family to look at death and look toward the future.
Surely, it’s a fruitless game to wish and hope that the end could have been different, but I would have loved to see Nate cruising down the highway, much like he came. Having him mostly gone for those last fleeting moments made it feel like something was missing. But come to think of it, that’s kinda the point, isn’t it? That losing someone means having a hole; an empty space that can never really be filled.
I’m sad that it’s over. A great ending to a consistently fantastic series. But, frankly, it’s nice to have an end to it too. I’m sure that I’ll feel the same way about the Sopranos when it wraps things up next year. All good things must come to an end.
The best part was getting to see how they all got old and died. It was genus! Everyone wants to know how they’ll end and this was great to see the future of all the characters. Clare has to be highlighted, she is the youngest and therefore has the most baggage from the rest of the family…
